This series, In the Dark, shows that I have an inherent need to observe the subconscious and analyze American customs. I believe these photographs reflect my mode of thinking. The evidence of control is apparent, but I still allow the product of chance to have a voice. My medium is large format photography. This process of shooting is the only way to conceive this project because I am physically changing the surface of the film. So far, I have experimented using tape, but I plan to try other methods as well. My subjects are floral arrangements, which circles back to American customs. I am questioning this custom specifically because it references our culture’s emotional displacement.
